Make some good posters to show the runners. Some good ones:
"Worst parade ever"
"You look tired"
"My feet hurt"
"Focus on the part of your body that is sore"
It's also good to be somewhere in the middle of the marathon, and continually yell, "You're almost there."
I direct my kids to heckle me during races. Makes it more fun and I always laugh.
