USU's backup QB this year was a 5th year senior named Jeff Crosbie.. I believe he started some early in his career before the arrival of Fuentes.. Any chance this is your guy? As a 5th year senior he would have been at USU since 1998. He started 5 games as a Frosh in 98 and all 11 of USU's games in 1999 as a soph.. Here is a link to his bio
