I’ve had a couple of waiters do the same. Do they realize they are in a tipping
situation or is the hate just to strong to resist? At least do it in a joking way which is a normal rivalry thing.
We once actually did leave because I strongly suspected I would end up eating at least some saliva if not worse based on the waiter.
