My 6-year-old son is a huge BYU football fan. He knows who Holker is. He knows Holker has seen targets in every game this year. I hadn't mentioned to him this week that Holker was gone because I just didn't want to deal with the meltdown. He gets really attached to the players, and had some crying fits at the end of last year when I told him that Tyler Allgeier wasn't coming back to play again, he was going to the NFL. And he liked Holker, he knew who he was, knew his number, and would cheer for him.

Anyway, talking to him on the way to school today, he asked me, "Dad, where was Holker at? I don't remember him at the game on Saturday." I explained to him that Dallin Holker chose to quit the team because he wasn't getting the ball as much as he wanted, and so he thought he didn't want to play for BYU anymore. I further explained that Dallin has chosen to sit out the rest of the year, and will probably play with another team starting next year.

My son's response, verbatim, "Dad, that's really bad sportsmanship and bad teamwork. I won't ever do that, and I hope none of my teammates [he plays on a competitive youth soccer team] do that to me."
