If the batter didn't know his teammate was stealing, that's either poor coaching
or lazy sign reading by the batter. Either way, it doesn't matter. You don't get to use ignorance as an excuse.
I'd have to see the play in question, but again, unless contact is made on the ball the batter is supposed to remain inside the batter's box. If he doesn't, he makes himself eligible to be called for interference. It's as simple as that.
