1) as soon as BYU reaches 35-40 points Kalani/Arod take their foot off the pedal and just try to control the clock and settle for field goal attempts. Kalani doesn't want to run up the score on anyone.
2) Tuiaki's defense is designed to make the opponent move the ball in small chunks, chewing up the clock as they move down the field and hopefully make a mistake. Eventually the opponent will run out of time. The long, time-consuming drives by the opponent chews up the clock so that each team gets fewer possessions, which leads to a closer game.
The USU game was a mirror image of the Wyoming game. Each game saw a margin of loss in the 12-14 point range even though they aren't very good teams and BYU was favored by 20-25 points in each game.
Somebody said USU was 118th nationally against the run, yet they held stymied BYU's running attack in the first half. Our Oline is terrible at run blocking.
