Weirdly, our viewership hasn't depended a ton on that; it's more about what teams we play
For the last 6 years our viewership looks like
- 2017: 7.54M
- 2018: 8.79M
- 2019: 8.85M
- 2020: 7.93M
- 2021: 10.71M
- 2022: 11.23M
For us, it's all about the name-brand quality of opponent. When we play better teams, we get better viewership. 45% of our viewership this year is from games against Oregon and Notre Dame. 67% is from the 3 games against ND, Oregon and Baylor. The other 6 games only account for a third.
This year we've played some big-name teams and it's really helped us. Whereas UCLA scheduled the most pathetic OOC ever - Bowling Green, Alabama St and South Alabama
