How you lose and to whom matters…
1) ND - BYU was within one score and driving late to possibly tie the game. ND is a weird team having lost home games to Marshall & Stanford and blowing out Clemson & UNC but this is easily BYU’s best loss.
2) Arkansas only went 6-6 and, sure BYU didn’t do much of anything to stop their offense. I do wonder though how that game turns out if the defense didn’t miss a huge sack on 3rd down that allowed Arkansas to get another TD and lead 31-21 at half. BYU kept up for a while to keep the game close but the defense’s lack of being able to stop Arkansa’s offense took its toll.
3) East Carolina is a very middling team and quite frankly the offense tanking in the 4th quarter in a very winnable game was surprising. Still it took a late PI to get East Carolina in position to beat BYU on a last second fg. At least the game was close and the defense while not playing great performed better than it had in a long time.
4) Oregon game was just awful. They pulled their starting QB midway through the 3rd quarter up 38-7. The fact BYU was ranked 12 going into this game only makes the loss sting more even though Oregon is the best team BYU played this year and a definite top 10-12 team but this was an ugly, lifeless showing.
5) Liberty is by far BYU’s worst performance on both sides of the ball. Worst BYU 2nd half in a good while as well. Worsr game of the season for many reasons even though Liberty is decent. Still this game had no business of losing by 27 points.
