offseason fixes the defensive issue (aka bring in a defensive coordinator).

I don't HATE Tuiaki, but his defenses haven't been good. The "good" years they've been mediocre. The "bad" years they've been awful, like this year. If you have good coaches, then some years you'll have a great defense, some years bad. But this defense is either average or bad since Tuiaki was in charge. I wouldn't care too much about the occasional bad year IF they also had an occasional GREAT year.

The offense has followed this cycle, however. Some years we have a top-25 powerhouse offense (if the defense didn't suck, this year would be that year IMHO). Some years they'll be rebuilding... and our offense has seen that too. In the down years, I will NOT call for Roderick's job. He's had too many good years, and I expect it to be cyclical.

But our defense has never had a "great" year under Tuiaki (and frankly, I think it may be Kalani's defensive philosophy). I don't like the scheme. His whole philosophy is don't give up big plays, make it hard for them to get a touchdown, and THEN they'll make mistakes. Play prevent and make them beat you.

But it hasn't worked. Project failed.

Let's bring in someone who actually wants to get stops, not just play contain and hope for turnovers. That philosophy just hasn't worked. How many QB hurries do we get? Sacks? QBs just sit back, get comfortable, and pick us apart. RBs get 5 yards before they get contact. And no, we don't give up big plays. But the good teams don't make mistakes against us. We lose the TOP battle almost every game. This philosophy hasn't worked.

So yeah, new defense, new defensive philosophy, and new DC. That's what i want in the offseason.

But the offense and head coach? I'm very satisfied. They have had so many great years. Just need a defense to follow the same cycle as the offense: some great years, some rebuilding years. The years they match up and are both great are the special years.
