I think people read into that too much, he was the ST and safeties guy, I think people make too much of his Asst Coach
title giving him oversight for Tuiaki and the defensive scheme. That said, when we had decent safeties, they were good, it's just this batch are terrible for trying to 'drop 8', they don't read cues, they are constantly getting beat in the middle of the field. Doesn't help that the LBs don't drop deep enough with TEs or run with them...

It's like the players and coaches never watch an NFL defense and how the players move in different coverages. QBs are expected to learn so much before they move on to the NFL and are 'ready'. Yet LBs and DBs don't need to have a good grasp on playing zone coverage? Normally DROP 8 should be like a blanket on passing downs, it should be nearly impossible to get big gains, yet it happens time and time again because they are ALL out of position.

Stanford got a cheap TD yesterday, that guy was definitely out, but Robinson and Hayes were both out of position on the play.
