Opportunity Mars rovers and how they vastly outlived their planned lifetime of ~90 days. Opportunity lasted ~15 years.

It was very well done and insightful. For the JPL team in charge of the missions, the rovers became like human family members with all the attendant emotions when the rovers experienced "health issues" and eventual death.
