Aren’t independent team bowl payouts lower?
If I had to guess, BYU likely gets a fixed bowl amount for ANY bowl ESPN owns. Meaning it is the same for any ESPN bowl for BYU. Non-ESPN bowls are probably negotiated separately with the respective bowl.
