A troubling trend for shooters under Pope.
Last season, we had 3 players transfer out of the program that are D1 talents. Lohner, Knight, and Erickson.

Let’s take a look at each of these players (early season) numbers for their new teams.

Lohner-

As a role player playing about 5 minutes less per game than he did at BYU, Lohner has improved his efficiency in all shooting metrics by 10% or more at Baylor. Also notable is the massive drop in efficiency from Lohners first year to second at BYU.

Knight-

After a very shaky start to the season, Knight has seemingly found his game again in the last 4 games. He is shooting from the field (48%) and 3 (41%) at career bests. He is doing this with 8 more minutes on the floor.

Knight was a volume scorer that wasn’t hyper efficient when he came into BYU, so I’m not sure what to make of this. Will be interesting to see if it’s sustained.

Erickson-

The lower competition level is apparent, but wow is he putting up incredible numbers. 63% from the field and 55% from behind the line. I don’t see that as sustainable, but it’s certainly noteworthy. Also had a 37 point game early this season.

Only 8 games in for these players, so still a light sample. And Erickson we don’t have a ton to go off of from last season anyways.

But with the struggles of this years team with what we are to believe have been established shooters… it’s hard not to worry the shooting woes are staff related.

Hopefully the team can iron out those issues and we can look lightly on the nights we opened O-fer against subpar competition.
