He's a 4th rounder, with exactly what that entails

QBs drafted in the first two rounds are guys drafted to be franchise QBs.

Quarterbacks drafted in the 3rd and 4th rounds (and sometimes even 5th) are expected to be backups with upside. Something about them that makes you think they could maaaybe turn into something more, but realistically, you're drafting them to be your backup. A prime example of this is Jacob Eason who was drafted in the 4th.  He's got the traits that you want to take a shot on... but you're also not really expecting or even hoping he'll be the starter anytime soon.

QBs in the 5th, 6th, 7th are seen as either

  • pure upside-limited backups with limitations that mean they can be a fill-in but simply don't have the traits to start (Gardner Minshew is the most well-known example of this)
  • huge projects that haven't shown much of anything, but are worth a low cost flyer (see Easton Stick)

For me, Jaren Hall fits into the 4th round as a guy who is likely a backup, but has some intriguing qualities.

FWIW Cam Rising is in the first category of the 5th/6th/7th group.  He's a gamer, he's tough, he competes and he's not bad, so not a bad guy to have as depth, but without the upside to be a real NFL starter.
