was no sign Armstrong was even a possibility - Slovis' individual stats don't tell the whole story - he QB'd an overall good offense at Pitt and depending on the year, good to very good offenses at USC. Passing TD's and completion percentage were down but they scored almost the identical amount we did this year. Going into the Big 12 with Jaren Hall leaving, this is very good news and I bet a lot of good schools were hoping he would turn BYU down and go to their school. The fact that we have been good at developing QBs is the reason he even considered us.
I understand the frustration of not having someone ready to step in, but twice in a row we have a QB leaving early for the draft - a great problem to have and sign of exceptional QB development. I don't think even they expected ZW and JH to be as good as they were - at least good enough to leave early for the NFL. They had a very highly rated QB in Conover with many offers including Alabama but you don't always hit on every 4 or 5 star QB - look at the transfer portal or see how many are on the bench behind a lower rated QB for whatever reason. Not easy to be a starter, let alone successful starter in college football.
