That, & there're a lot fewer "decent" women's teams to contend with.
The WCC has two solid (but hardly great) teams this season — Portland & Gonzaga. And of the rest, BYU is probably the only team that even qualifies as "decent" at this point in the season.
At least three WCC women's teams are horrible this year, while for the men — lowly Pepperdine has two scoring guards Pope would die to have on his roster right now. Pacific & SD also have scorers who would probably lead our team if they were with us.
