There’s a theme to the companies on the show, and it’s generally gimmicky
products that either ride a quick popularity wave or are such that any larger company can copy. Not the kind of thing you see grow into a real business.
Any company that truly has more to it (legit IP, etc) is gonna attract real VC/PE attention. It’s not exactly been hard to raise money over the last decade.
