I don’t mind the gradient they used with the blackout helmets for the ND game. The helmets had the Oval Y on them, so that’s fine. I kind of like the blackout uni once or twice a year. But the old sailor Coug is just ugly and is not our brand-recognition logo. The bowl helmet was terrible in every way. Completely unrecognizable as BYU, at least the Ark helmet, with the atrocious paint work on one side, had the oval Y on the other so half the people could tell who we were. Why we keep messing with substitutions for the oval Y is a mystery and every time we do it people just don’t equate weird designs and alternate logos with BYU
