Left lower lobe pneumonia can be tricky in a single frontal X-ray. The lateral
Is best for looking at the posterior lower lobes as the diaphragm obscures both lobes and the heart obscures the medial left lower lobe. A radiologist shouldn’t miss a true lobar pneumonia, as that is seen throughout the lobe. A more focal pneumonia could easily be missed in the posterior medial left lower lobe.
