...he's now making between 800K - $1M as a DC. Im pretty confident Kalani and Hill have talked many times over the years and Kalani knew Hill's number to make the move. Hill probably also wanted to make sure he could get the supporting staff he wanted to be successful.
W/ the move to the B12, Kalani knew he finally had the resources to get him and allow Hill to pay his assistants what they would want to build out his staff.
For perspective, here are ballpark numbers I am confident were needed to make the change:
Tuiaki: ~$300K (I can't think he was getting any more than that)
Lamb: ~$180-225
Clune: ~$150-175K
Hadley: ~$150-175K
Gilford: ~$150-175K
Total Payroll estimate: $930K - $1.05M
Hill's let's play it conservative and say $800K (could be as high as $1M)
Po'uha: ~$350- 400K (previous P5 exp.)
Poppinga: ~350- $400K (previous P5 exp.)
Gilford: ~$325-375K
Ena: ~$325-375K
Total Payroll estimate: $2.15M - $2.55M
That's a massive jump and not to mention that Kalani is likely making north of $2M now as well. There is NO way BYU could have pulled all this talent for what their pre-B12 budgets would offer.
