I think we've had this conversation before, but that's simply not true. He hated America and poured his soul into
fighting the Americans. He hated America so much that even AFTER the war he continued attempts to foment rebellion in the US and looked to instigate a renewal of the fight. Hated Washington with every fiber of his soul.
