For sure, SMU is a stronger candidate than Rice.

I think SMU could improve pretty quickly by using NLI money.

Plus, they seem much more interested in investing in athletics than Rice does. They have a very nice, recently renovated basketball arena, and are in the process of expanding their football stadium. Rice looks more like a WCC caliber school.
