To me it doesn't seem like much of a mystery. Here's how it went down:
Lohner was playing out of position for us in 2021-22. He got off to a bad start with shooting and never really recovered. It got to the point where you could hear audible groans at the Marriott Center every time he began to shoot. He played hard and made a lot of hustle plays. Those got overlooked in the focus on his shooting and comparing him to what most thought his potential should have been. I really doubt any of that would have changed if he had stayed at BYU.

He transferred to a very good Baylor team and will play in the NCAA Tournament. He doesn't play nearly as much. But when he does, his team and the fans praise him for the hustle plays.

He traded minutes and heavy criticism from a team that didn't make the NIT in exchange for praise and fewer minutes on a team that's going to the NCAA tournament and may make a deep run.

It doesn't seem like a win-win because BYU didn't win. I'm not sure BYU lost though. It's more of a neutral-win situation.
