Texas A&M discovered and leaked OU and UT move to SEC… before that nothing was spoken outwardly by those programs’ leadership that they were contemplating departure.
Same with USC and UCLA
And others before
Rumors yes and chatter… but Presidents are committed… until they are not.
The “Alliance” was another such feint on the B1G’s part… clearly they knew their own intentions to expand on the heels of the recent SEC move… and PAC, ACC and much of the media thought it was a pronouncement of the future… these 3 conferences against the “power hungry” SEC.
In the present, PAC presidents, AD’s, etc making statements to the media are nothing different. They are playing both sides, biding their time, disguising their plans or any possible combination of the above. They will make a course choice when they have the information they want and not be beholden to any prior statements of allegiance.
There is is certainly no guarantee that PAC teams are on the verge of defection… but these PAC12 fan disciples (most notably Utes) that take these president and AD media statements as gospel evidence that the PAC is truly bound together are desperate enough to will themselves into gulliblility.
