Ranking my levels of confidence by source (regarding PAC expansion/deals)

Tier 1

  1. Ourand/Marchand - for this topic, having your sources in the sports media world is better than having ADs, coaches, etc.  Initially I put Thamel in this group...but really he's closer to the Tier 2 guys. Ourand/Marchand are in a tier of their own.  By far my favorite source.

    Tier 2
  2. Pete Thamel - National connections within college sports, plus obviously works at ESPN, history of breaking news
  3. Jon Wilner - connections across the PAC, history of breaking news, good sources, but have to watch out for slanted reporting (given his sources are primarily PAC and they're likely giving him the info they want out there)
  4. Dennis Dodd - Nationally connected, but historically more likely to provide analysis than breaking news, more connected to ADs/coaches than admin
  5. Stewart Mandel - Similar to Dodd in that he's nationally connected, with more analysis than breaking news and more ADs/coaches than admin.  But in his recent article he also basically threw up his hands and said "Who knows anymore? I certainly don't".  While I respect the honesty, him admitting he has no clue means he drops below Dodd

    Tier 3
  6. John Canzano - Have to account for his slanted perspective, but does at least have legitimate connections in Oregon + Oregon St from his career as a journalist there
  7. Greg Flugaur - Seems to have one very solid source from ASU
  8. Jason Scheer - Might have sources in Arizona...unsure.  Also has a slanted/biased perspective (like both the aforementioned Jon/John's, albeit in the opposite direction)

    Tier 4
  9. John Kurtz - great reports/analysis, love his work...but breaking news isn't really his thing.  More an aggregator and analyst, but fair and insightful

Tier 5 (aka Troll Tier per the excellent suggestion of BlooCoog)
  10. mhver3 - Claims to have good deep inside info from all of WVU, Big 12 offices, B1G offices, PAC offices, Colorado, Arizona, Arizona St, Utah, Oregon, Washington, Baylor and others.  I'm sure he knows someone who is tangentially connected somewhere, but there's no way he has knowledgeable inside sources at every one of these places
  11. Tony Altimore - doesn't claim any sources, but is very sure of what will happen.  Like Kurtz, he's more an analyst than a guy who breaks news...but his stuff is clearly slanted to certain outcomes
