Bad decision.

The ref protected himself and somehow the kid ended up on the ice on his back. He was a punk that was a drag on the team all season long, leading the team in penalty box minutes. His dad was every bit the "character" the kid was and was livid with the ref, and demanded the police be called.

Once the police arrived, (IIRC), they charged the kid with assault (which didn't please the dad), and thanked the ref for getting the situation under control (which enraged the dad). The kid was kicked off the team that night, and both the kid and dad were barred from entry into Peaks Ice Arena for at least a year. It was a good decision by both the coach, the police and those in charge of the arena.
