I wonder why north-south roads were so much worse than east-west (at least that's what my kids and neighbors and I
observed in our various adventures last evening). Maybe north-south roads got just a few degrees warmer from the partly cloudy afternoon hours to more effectively turn the snow into water and then ice when the temperatures dropped again.
