promoted two levels up despite only being a couple years out of school and the people he worked closely with kept complaining to me about him not doing his work. He didn't have any kind of super stellar educational background or anything. He was also a bit of a crass vaper that was often outside taking a smoke break. But he was really good at kissing up to the management, and he went from being below my rank to being above my rank in one fell swoop.

Meanwhile, same company, when I called a meeting with my supervisors and shared a presentation about how much I brought to the table, how I was training more senior people on things they didn't know how to do, etc, they just said 'sorry, there's nothing we can do'.
