Additionally, Pope had to rely more on the portal than I think he will in the future as the roster transitioned his first few years and as he dealt with a higher number of injuries than I think he will normally see. Further, the Covid year is creating even more transfers as it let kids transfer without penalty and all players did not lose a year of eligibility for playing in 20-21. Put together the new transfer rules, the Covid transfer year and the higher numbers of kids with eligibility and you have a higher number of kids transferring and moving around than you will see in a few more years once all the athletes who played during the Covid year filter through the system.

This kid would be a good pick up. He would pair well with Fouss, I think. But I am not convinced he is good enough to demand enough respect to really force opposing defenses to be concerned enough about him to create space for his teammates. No doubt an upgrade over either Jake Wahlin or Noah Waterman, but if he is the best portal find for this year I doubt that is enough to improve BYU enough to make the tournament next season.

But if it is him with a good 5 transfer and a Stephen Ashworth then it becomes a viable dream. I hope he isn't the best portal find but if he is well then at least he is an upgrade!
