I would seriously consider a firefighter if I had to do it over. Start a career
at 20, ability to retire at 40, move into an admin/mgmt position if desired, learn paramedic skills. Further your education if you want, paid by the city. This leads to additional incentive and certification pays. Easy to get OT if desired. A lot of schedules are 2 days on, 4 days off.

I've worked on multiple fire union negotiations and they have a great setup.
