We don’t need an elite shot blocker as that really isn’t what will make us better at this point (the defense was about as good as it’s ever been last year). He just has to survive in PnR defense and he is hopefully smart enough to do that if we scheme it right.
What we desperately need is offensive skill— passing and shooting. Watch how a team like FAU spaces the floor and passes. We absolutely must get back to that and Khalifa is a plus here but can also do the dirty work— put backs, rebounds, etc
I’ll also add that if Waterman doesn’t make a drastic leap we don’t really have anyone to pair with Fouss (there’s a reason Pope rarely played AAA and Fouss together— neither can score outside 5 feet of the hoop). While Khalifa isn’t an elite shot blocker he is 6’11 and will certainly alter enough shots around the rim that his offensive impact will mitigate his defensive weaknesses as long as he can survive the PnR
