I don't think you appreciate how quickly things can change...
It's great to be in the P5 club and a member of the conference with the third best media/NCAA money in the land that is looking to pick up teams rather than just survive. This should give BYU a recruiting bump and, of course, it has more $$$ now for coaches and facilities plus more exciting matchups regularly coming to Provo, which will be great for the fans all around.

However, it's noteworthy that the B12 was in survival mode very recently and could be back in that position if it doesn't establish itself as the undisputed third-best option and work to compete with the B1G and SEC over time. The major networks want three major conferences and when Texas and OU announced they were leaving for the SEC, the P12 was the league that was being positioned to take that role by taking the top 6 teams remaining in the B12. That plan was foiled because USC and UCLA wanted nothing to do with a new GOR as I'm sure they were already planning to bolt for the B1G, so essentially the B12 was in the right place at the right time for survival. This obviously also benefited BYU and the other three programs, but it had more to do with timing than anything else.

Fast forward to last Fall and the TV power brokers decide that the B12 should take the third major conference slot, which honestly makes the most sense because of the stability from all of its members being strong brands, but not so strong that they're obvious choices for the B1G and SEC to pick up. As long as the B12 snags at least a couple of P12 schools that will solidify its position, but if the remaining P12 schools stay together or merge with the ACC, then the B12's future could be in doubt again in six years. The demise of the P12 would be the best thing for the B12 right now as it can pick up a small handful of solid brands and then wait for the ACC to implode at some point in the next 3-5 years and pick up some more.
