I think making the McD's AA team is about Hype
In order to be ont Mcd's AA team you have to be from a big city going to a big school or have some kind of athleticly freakish upside. I think we put these players on a pedastal when in general they aren't that much better than other very good high school players, like we make them out to be. Take a look at meads. I remember him in high school. I thought he was very good but he was put on the team because he dominated utah and his upside was huge. Obviously that didn't amount to a great college or pro player. I mean dawes had A longer/more productive college career

I'll give you another example. Jimmer Fredette's AAU team played the DC Assault in a tournament. This team had two MCd's AA's in Micheal Beasley and Nolan Smith. Jimmer's teams starting 5 also consisted of 5 division 1 athletes none of which were close to being AA's. Fredette's team was competitive and almost/should have won. Did they catch this team off guard? Probably, but what I am trying to say is that usually every year there is one or two guys who are really that much better and have pro ability but usually on the McD's AA team alot of the guys are there because of upside and hype.
