factor to it. They go full on bling, and think shiny bits and precious metals make a watch great, which I personally dislike. The original Rolexes got their name as watches loved by the military, and now they also have to have every shade of gold and other material. Just my personal taste, but I don't want to wear jewelry.
I do own a Rolex Yacht Master II, but in steel. The 'look at me' brands like Breitling, Rolex, Tag, all feel to me like a Mercedes that has been up-priced to a Bentley for no reason other than shiny chrome bits and and a nameplate.
I worked at a Swiss bank for years, the consensus among the Swiss was that a lot of the Swiss brands are overpriced and the high end non-Swiss brands like Sinn (Germany), Panerai (Italian), and A Lange Sohne (German) are better value (despite obviously being very expensive too).
So to continue the analogy, the Swiss brands are overpriced bling-y Mercedes, and the German watches are more like sporty BMWs or Porsches. If that makes sense.
