I've been there many times. During WW2 it was used as hospital for soldiers. After the war the owner of the hotel C&O Railroad hired New York interior decorator Dorothy Draper to design the resort. She chose to use bold and colorful decorating and she considered this her masterpiece. Decorating can certainly be judged in the eye of the beholder, but it is just the way things are at the Greenbrier. It's a throwback to the Old South. Even when they added a casino about 10-15 years ago her decorating style was still used. Once you're there it's pretty cool but at first it's a bit over the top. I doubt it will ever change. Anyway, it's a great place to visit and spend a lot of money in a short amount of time.
