There are a lot of Power programs out there that utilize fast, smaller LBers. Guys of the type BYU can't recruit a lot of — & who were traditionally turned into Safeties in our schemes.
Under Kalani, our Safeties have downsized into athletes of the type of our traditional CB — with speed & coverage being valued much more. Calling our "hybrid" package players something other than "linebacker" is really a matter of semantics often times.
Maybe even Lamese's position reflects little more than a semantics change we'll see under Hill. Or maybe it reflects a change in schematics.
Or maybe the poor kid's been slotted in a hopeless venture, like you suggest. I wouldn't be so skeptical, though. This isn't the same BYU D of the last few years.
Or let's hope not, anyways.
