This was a few years ago: They dropped CamelBak because their parent company
also owned Savage Arms and Stevens Firearms. They only started selling CamelBak after the company divested of those firearms subsidiaries.

That was when I--a former REI employee--resigned my membership, and I haven't shopped there since.
