me sick to my stomach. I think I would have curled up in a ball and cried.

But I have to wonder. Why didn't they land at 2 in the morning under cover of darkness? I'm genuinely curious, so if anyone knows I'd appreciate an answer.

The tides I believe. Also, coordination and confusion.

Darkness works both ways, hard to organize the inland push in the dark

Yes, lots of pre-attack bombing, you can see the craters at Pointe du Hoc
