RSL is already one of the poorer teams in the league and they’re supposed to help foot the bill for Messi to come to Miami? RSL hasn’t played Miami yet in 4 years. They may face them once in the time Messi is in the league and it may not even be here in Salt Lake. RSL will see minimal benefits, not nearly as much as Miami and Eastern Conference/glamour market Western Conference teams.
MLS is going to make other teams pitch in to get Messi and change the rules to benefit Miami and the other big teams. How does any of this benefit RSL?
It’s a marketing league, the league will funnel all the best players to the biggest teams. There was talk of Ronaldo going to KC after the World Cup. That wouldn’t have happened, MLS would’ve made sure he ended up in LA or New York. MLS actively undermines it smaller market teams but since it’s closed league and has salary cap they can claim they are “protecting” those teams.
So I guess I apologize that I’m not a simp for MLS and frankly it surprises me how many fans prefer the league to their favorite team.
