My father and I did battlefield touring, Verdun, Chateau-Thierry, Compiegne, Belleau Wood, Flanders, Somme, St Mihiel, Margraten and I've taken in or taken my family to Normandy, Luxemburg, Cambridge and Anzio (Nettuno). There is no comparison to the devoted care and beauty of ABMC sites vs desultory German, English or French war cemeteries. Yes, most every English town has a memorial, or cenotaph at town center memorializing their WWI dead, doing what they could afford to do. The ABMC places will refresh any American's reverence and pride as memorials go.
To those planning tours, if you can, try to get to Bastogne, or view the expanse of the Rhine at Remagen. Dachau is certainly moving, as was playing football in the center of Hitler's Party rally site in Nurnberg.
