...on the phone for about an hour. I love the guy and it's great that after 45 years we are still good friends. But I'm serious about the goofball part. And most of the 14 who served all or most of our missions in Iran have stayed close over the years.
And we do have stories, many of which won't be told. That said, every Elder called to Iran was a good man. We didn't see crazy disobedient things going on until we got to England. At that point, we saw some missionaries do things that we need to forget.
The worse thing we ever did, all 10 of us at once, was play basketball at the American High School gym during mission conference. Thing was, our first mission president thought b-ball was a contact sport and didn't want us breaking ankles. So it was a full mission off the rails day. I guess I also played some football at a branch picnic. Later I tried to talk our second mission president into letting me play softball in the industrial (oil field) league in Ahwaz. I tried quite hard to convince him but it was still, "No!" but with a laugh.
