When I was at work, I kept getting notifications from our doorbell that there was movement at our front-door - I normally ignore them because it can get set-off by an insect or bush moving, but it kept alerting, so I checked it. It turns out that my wife was talking to someone I didn't recognize, so I turn-on the audio and listened. It was a door-to-door salesman for solar. I know with absolute certainty that we're not interested in solar, and she's of the same opinion, so I was surprised when the conversation kept going without her expressing that disinterest.
Well, by the end of the conversation she'd...
- Scheduled an appointment for them to come back for a consult tomorrow.
- Given them her phone number.
- Informed when we are usually home and aren't home (and when we were going to be out of the house over the weekend).
- When we moved to the house and where we were before.
- What I do for work.
- Where we went to college.
- Who's in our family.
- And...our preferred type of music.
I called her afterward and she said she'd panicked and was afraid of telling the salesman "no".
The return appointment is tomorrow - fortunately I'll be home and will have the task of disappointing the salesman. I am sure he thought he'd found a great customer.
I guess we're gonna have to work on saying "no".
Hopefully nobody breaks into our house while we're out...
