Their loss was today (not 8 or 12 weeks ago) and they aren’t a conference champion. Plus, if you let UGA in, you have to let Bama in, and this is not the year for the SEC to get two teams in. Buh-bye, UGA.
I think FSU gets in because the committee won’t want to penalize a team for an injury when the team still hasn’t lost and is a P5 conference champion. That reeks too much of a beauty pageant. But I think FSU gets the 4-seed, forcing them to play Michigan in the semis (i.e., the committee won’t want to reward UW with an FSU matchup).
That leaves Texas or Bama for the 3-seed. I think this is a very tough call and the longest conversation the committee will have. But in the end, I think Texas will get the nod, partly because of the head-to-head result but mostly because Texas entered this weekend ranked higher than Bama, and didn’t do anything (in a 49-21 romp) to justify letting them get passed up.
1. Michigan
2. Washington
3. Texas
