I think it is an icicle issue. As long as you have locations of ingress/egress
From the house that won't have icicles you are fine.
But people do die every year from icicles. It's not a lot. But it does happen.

I am not sure if I will put in gutters. I worry about snow backing up. I have never really had any experience with that.
