I was told by dental hygienist that I needed a deep cleaning and would need to come back another day. I get sent back to some scheduling/billing person who pulls up my dental insurance says " Wow, your parents have great insurance"; I informed her that was my own insurance and that I am glad everything will be covered. I come back get the cleaning. Get a statement in the mail that I had no charges due the next month. 8 months later I get another bill in the mail from them saying I owed $400 for the service because the dental insurance denied the claim. I call my dental insurance to see what was going on. They sent me the claims the dentist made in an email. After looking up some dental insurance codes the dentist filed a claim for a different service than what I received which needed x-ray proof. It cost over $900. This claim was filed and denied twice. The dentist then made a third claim that was accepted except that they only did one quadrant of my mouth when I guess they could have charged for all four. So they got $100 from my insurance and not $400. So thats why they were billing me to get what they thought was fair. I told them that it looks like they were trying to up charge my insurance and pocket the difference or they were incompetent. Either way it was their fault they were not paid what they expected. So I never paid. They called me every month and sent a bill every month for about a year. They would call and send a bill twice a year for the next year or two then they stopped. If its something like that I just wouldn't pay. If they would have sent me to collections; I would have fought it some way. Wasn't going to let them just rip me off.
