I caught part of the DJ & PK show this morning talking to a bracket guy.
They had already started talking when I turned on the radio, so I missed how things started. But they got into BYU, and one of the guys asked him specifically what to expect from Duquesne.

He said that they have a pair of good guards - but one really stands out and has defensively "stopped" all of the "primary guards" that Duquesne has faced from the A10. DJ asked him about the rest of their guards - stating that BYU has more than one guy who can shoot from the outside, having one guy try to stop the best outside shooter may not be as effective when there are multiple guys who can shoot. And he kind of acknowledged that BYU presents more of a challenge in that respect.

He said that Duquesne has had good 3 pt shooting defense throughout the season, but their interior defense hasn't been as good. Then he made some comment about the interior not being BYU's game - Khalifa doesn't really play back to the basket. He acknowledged that Fouss does - but it really came across as if BYU relies on Khalifa to play most of the minutes and like Fouss is a back up who plays minor minutes and can't really carry a large scoring load. It will be interesting to see how Pope uses Fouss this game - and at what point in the game.

He mentioned that while their guard play can be good, they are not big guys. Three of their starters are 6'3", 6'3", and 6'4" - so BYU may elect to just shoot over the top of them. And their first guard off the bench is only 5'9". We may see more of Johnson trying to back his guy down - or any of the bigger guards when Khalifa is in and playing the perimeter.

It didn't really dissuade me from being pretty optimistic for tomorrow. They could go off and have a good game - but BYU has some experience playing good guards. If their #1 guard is as good a defender as they say - then I could see some passing of the ball and Hall not necessarily bringing the ball all the way up the court each possession if he's playing tight defense. But I think there are some pretty good opportunities for BYU based on their size advantage. And I don't expect them to have another shooting display as poor as the one against Texas Tech.
