I am generally really polite to people, even those trying to do their job.
I'm working from home and sitting near the front door. Someone rings the bell and knocks. My wife knows that I've had a hectic and stressful day and she quickly goes to the door to answer it. It is yet another solar salesman.
He goes through all the schemes that sales people are taught: I was just talking to your neighbor Joe, we aren't selling anything, we just want to do a check, etc.
My wife politely told him twice that we are not interested. He kept going the sales rebuttals. I know them all, I sold door-to-door once.
I was extremely annoyed at the interruption. I got up and stepped to the door and told him that she had politely told him twice that we are not interested. He didn't apologize, just started another rebuttal. I repeated that we were not interested and that he should turn around and walk away. He kept talking until I raised my voice.
He asks, why are you upset, everyone around here is so nice.
I'm not normally the kind of guy to be rude. But dude, show some respect and read the situation. I've had a bad, long day and don't want to talk to you.
But I should have been nicer.
