From the responses in my post, it sounds like this is standard practice
For soccer and maybe basketball.
On the other hand, a local school bus driver was telling my friend yesterday that he was driving a high school baseball team just the other day and they were talking about a letter from their AD that they were all required to read about how the UHSAA is allegedly going to start cracking down on recruiting.

That is horrible policy if allowed. I know a coach at my kid's school got sanctioned for attending a club team event.
