church just playing pick-up ball on a Wednesday night. Our group had been playing every week for about 8 years. We had some great times and I made great friends playing those nights. I was 43 at the time and it was basically the end of my basketball life and I haven't played a full court game since. I don't regret playing and I really miss playing with those guys.
Mine was a freak play also.....I was just trailing a fast break, caught the ball through the net after a guy made a lay up, and I turned to throw the ball in bounds and bam....torn ACL. It was something that I had done thousands and thousands of times in my life.
I laid on the floor and said a few choice words very loudly that should never be said in a church....I literally thought that I was going to look down and my leg would be pointing the wrong direction. After about 30 seconds most of the pain went away and I turned over to see that my leg looked totally normal. I walked home and just thought it would get better. A couple of weeks later, I had ACL surgery and also found 4 meniscus tears that all happened at the same time. I took up pickleball and it really helped me recover from the ACL.
Keep playing and enjoy it while you can.
