Spent time in Island Park, then drove down to Ashton to get a better percentage of visibility. It was super cool and no problem with crowds or anything. We then went back north to IP, and spent several hours doing activities and hanging out. All told, about 7 hours AFTER the eclipse, we headed back to Cache Valley from IP. That was where the fun began!
Hours and hours of stop and go traffic. We detoured through the town of Blackfoot since google maps had it as 7 min faster than I-15. Sadly, everyone else did that too. Driving through residential streets bumper-to-bumper after dark. The entire neighborhoods were out in their front yards watching the "action"...selling water, signs to use their bathrooms for $2/person...people yelling to everyone "go back to Utah!!"...etc. It was a hoot. We literally got out of the jam shortly after Malad, ID when it started to break up a bit. It was a long, late one for sure.
I never want to do that again. lol Was NOT worth that.
